Loss by Jennifer Yates (2021)

Loss is cumulative

Loss takes away

It its place

It leaves sorrow

It's a game life must play.

It meters out platitudes,

Plays on your fears,

It revives the memory

Of forgotten years.

I requires us to face, with hope

The fears that lie within,

And paints them thick with pathos

That pulls the despair in.

It plunders the heart,

It offers no balm

And leaves you feeling broken,

A wreck that braved the storm.

I promise you no comfort,

But let me please explain,

I've visited this place

Again and again.

I haven't found much comfort,

But this I can assure,

I'm right in there beside you,

I feel your loss too.
